Reactivating a UK iPhone after moving to the USA
Today I got my replacement iPhone (1st gen) from the Apple Store. The earphone speaker had broken down, rending it rather less useful as an iPhone. Apple service was outstanding, I booked in, they ordered a replacement (going out of their way to find acceptable evidence for my returning the iPhone outside of the warranty period which expired a month ago). The replacement came within 48 hours,...

The Pownce data export is coming, but the permalinks attached to all those posts will die with Pownce, unless they keep some sort of redirection system running.
I doubt anyone will dispute it being a nice idea, but it would require Six Apart to keep a server running for ever to do it, so please show some...

In the end, I decided to move my Pownce notes over to Tumblr by hand. They have an API and all, but given that I don’t have much content here, it was a good opportunity to copy things over in a format that made sense, adjusting into Tumblr’s video/audio/quote systems where available.
Tumblr lets you modify the ends of permalinks, so I’ve plumped for a pattern of pownce-123445...
Tumblweed →
So, the hope is to replace Pownce with Tumblr, it seems to be the closest match for microblogging. There’s an excellent looking iPhone client, and Tumblweed is an Adobe AIR-based desktop app.
It’s a bit strange. The UI is chunky, and it suffers all the usual problems of being built on AIR- misbehaving text fields and lack of system functions. That said, it does work for publishing.
